Dear Michelle, I’m Zoe and I come from Spain, and I wanted to thank you for all your hard work on Chronicles of Ancient Darkness. You’re my favorite writer since I read Wolf Brother’s first chapter. All the descriptions and details make the story seem even more realistic. I have to confess I even cried in some parts of the book! (I don’t want to make spoiler). Hey, is it true that you saw a bear in California? How was the experience? How awesome! Also, I love how Wolf expresses himself when he’s the narrator in some chapters. I didn't like wolves very much until I started reading your books. Now it's my favorite animal! Is Skin Taker the last book? Have you thought about writing another one? I hope so!
My family and I are big mountaineers and we've slept on snow-covered peaks in the Pyrenees. It's an amazing experience (even though it's freezing cold). I have shared an image about it. I want you to know that your books are awesome (how old were you where you when you started writing?) and have inspired me to write a similar story, based a lot on Brother Wolf but also on the movie Avatar (have you seen it? I love it!). Thank you, Michelle, and may the guardian run with you!

Hallo again, Zoe. Your second message came in while I was answering your first – hence a second reply! Thank you very much for that extremely atmospheric picture: I envy you your mountaineering skills. To answer your questions: yes, I did indeed encounter a bear in California, and it was pretty terrifying, as she was very defensive of her young cubs, and came rather too close to me (see my website, there’s a video about my inspiration for Wolf Brother). I was five when I wrote my first story – about a mouse who leads her village to safety when a glacier threatens to crush it – but it was very short, and the spelling was terrible. And no, Skin Taker isn’t the last book in the series: Wolf Bane is the ninth and final one. I do hope the publishers translate it into Spanish, so that you can enjoy that one too. ( And no, I’ve never got around to seeing Avatar, I’m afraid.) I’ve got to go now, and do some more writing. Good luck with yours – and may the guardian run with you! With best wishes, Michelle
