Dear Michelle,
I’m sure you don’t remember me but we met on a polar bear expedition a number of years ago. I have a grandson who is 9 and never without a book in his hands. Which of yours would be a good one to start him with?

Dear Alana, actually I do remember you; partly because of your unusual name, but mostly because I recall having some interesting conversations with you and your husband, in between watching the bears. It’s really heartening to hear that your grandson loves reading; you and his parents must be doing a lot right! As for my books, I’d suggest giving him Wolf Brother. If he likes it, there are eight more books in the series, all with the same main characters. But one word of caution as he’s only nine: the first chapter is rather hard-hitting emotionally, so maybe you or one of his parents might take a look at it first. Nine children will take it in their stride, but I just thought I’d mention it, as you know your grandson, and I don’t. Anyway, I really hope he enjoys it – and thanks for getting in touch. With very best wishes, Michelle
