Hi, Connor – and thanks for giving Wolf Brother ten out of ten!  It took me about a year to write the book.  That involved several months of research (see my reply to your classmate Andy for details), then weeks of planning what would happen in the story.  Then came the bit I hate: the blank page, when I had to write the first draft.  That took several months, but finally I had the whole thing typed up on my computer.  Then came the bit I enjoy most: re-writing.  By that I mean making it better: cutting out the boring bits, making it clearer and more exciting, and so on.  It took months and I went through about 30-40 drafts of the story, but I enjoyed it, as I knew I was making it much better.  Finally, my editor read it and made some comments (mostly really good ones), so I had to do a bit more re-writing before it was finished. Choosing the cover and working with the wonderful artist Geoff Taylor on the chapter illustrations and maps was the fun bit after that.   Then of course I had to do the same thing all over again for the other eight books in the series.  So as you can see, it was lots of work; but enormous fun, too.  With best wishes, Michelle
