Dark Matter – any remaining chance for a movie?

Ask Michelle Anything
William Writes…

Dark Matter has been my favourite book since I was 12 years old (now 23). It defined my love of horror and stories set in brutal and isolated environments, and it was the first queer book I ever read. It's very important to me and I was ecstatic when a film adaptation was announced some years back, but there hasn't been any news about it since. Just wanted to ask if there is any chance it could still be adapted or if this has unfortunately fallen through?

Thank you so much for writing a book that has been so important to me!

Michelle Replies…

Dear William, I was really moved to read your message, and I want to thank you for getting in touch.  As for the film, all I can tell you is that things have indeed gone quiet, and I don’t know when or if that will change.  However, they haven’t entirely fallen through, so there is still hope.  I’m really sorry that I can’t be more definite, but over the years I’ve learnt that getting a film made is a much more uncertain business than publishing a book (this makes me glad that I’m not a film producer).  If I have any more positive news which I’m in a position to share, I will of course post it on my website.  In the meantime, all I can say is that there is still hope!  With very best wishes, Michelle
