Deana Writes…

Hello,
I'm a mother of a 9 year old girl that is simply obsessed with the Chronicles of Ancient Darkness series. She started reading Wolf Brother when she was 7. Over the next two years she read the first 6 books all 2-3 times. We recently found the next 3 and she is so excited that Renn, Wolf, and Torak's story continues! Our daughter is obsessed with wolves (and almost all predators, including dragons), and is an avid writer herself, with over 200 pages of typed stories in my Google Drive. She insists she will be an author someday and last year in third grade she won her school's Literary Contest for a chapter in her book called, The Strange Group, about a wolf, owl and a fox. Below is the back cover/summary. I'm almost certain was influenced by your books:

WHEN DARKNESS CLAIMS THE LAND, WE MUST EARN IT BACK.
When Malgarel the wolf turns eight and journeys into the forest on his own, he immediately becomes friends with a young owl named Paprika. They journey on together and arrive at the owl palace, where they learn that the royal family crest has been stolen. On the way to find it, they meet a red fox named Sacred. All three of them then go to the ancient redwood forest, one of the most important places in the universe. That is where Malgarel notices the black shadow that has been following them throughout their whole journey. He tries to sound the alarm so he and his friends can capture it, but it is fast. It slinks back into the dark before they can catch it. In the morning they continue their journey to the flame ocean. They follow the dirt trail towards the west, toward the Demon castle. That’s where they lose Paprika to a servant of the Demon King and Queen. And there is only one way to get her back. And that will also be the way to get Malgarel’s heart sewed back together. And Sacred’s prophecy is the key. The key to creating a pack strong enough to destroy anything. The key to saving the animal kingdom.

If you ever write any type of fan mail, I'm sure she'd be ecstatic hear from you. I can send you our address or you can just reply to my email. I'm sure she'd love to know about how she can manifest her dreams of becoming an author like you.

Dear Deana, It’s terrific to know that your daughter likes my stories so much – and even better if they’ve encouraged her to write stories herself!  Please pass on my congratulations to her for winning the Literary Contest.  From the summary of The Strange Group, I can see why she won.  That fellowship of wolf, fox and owl is an intriguing one, with the potential for lots of fun in developing their different characters, and how they interact.  I also think their names are well-chosen: they fit really well (I particularly like the choice of Paprika, which strikes me as unexpected but somehow totally suitable for an owl!).  The best way for your daughter to contact me is as you did, via “Ask Michelle Anything” on my website – although given her age, you’ll presumably supervise that, and use your email address.  Thank you so much for getting in touch.  I’ll finish by wishing your daughter the best of luck with her writing – and I hope that she enjoys the three final books about the adventures of Torak, Renn and Wolf.  With best wishes, Michelle
